Cool little hidden gem of a lighthouse on the outskirts of Lihue. Great place to watch the waves crash into the rocks. The road turns into a dirt road with some bumpy spots when you get about 75m from the lighthouse, so be aware. But if your car can make it, you can park right next to it! Wife said she saw some needles on the ground in places, best to avoid this spot at dusk or dark.
A nice spot to watch the waves crashing in on shore and the planes swooping overhead as they land at the airport. It is a relatively easy walk down a dirt “road” between the golf course and airport. There are other paths that skirt along the shoreline. A beautiful quiet spot to visit. The lighthouse itself isn’t too much to see - graffiti covers the base and there is no rotating light anymore. Still a nice little spot.
I love lighthouses and saw this was walking distance from the Kauai Beach Resort. We had an older copy of the blue book and thought we might be able to see inside, but that doesn't look possible any longer. It still was worth the trip and the views were impressive from the point. Great destination for walkers.
The road leading to the lighthouse is a dirt road which can be tricky to find. If you drive through the Marriot Resort in Lihue and continue up the road past the golf club house eventually it will turn into a dirt road which you follow along the outside perimeter of the Lihue Airport which will lead near the lighthouse. We went after heavy days of rain so the road was pretty washed out and had huge potholes. Thankfully we were in a Jeep so it was no problem, but it could cause troubles in a regular sedan. Once we made it there, the views and serenity of the island were breathtaking. Awesome, awesome stop and I am so glad we were able to make it.
The view from the lighthouse is stunning. The birding on the day we went was disappointing. Access to the site was a bit difficult trying to get through the golf course. It is really to bad they don't make it more like Kilaeau on the north shore. It could use some love.
