• If the bakery would fix their packaging issues I think they’d be more popular. As it is, the materials they choose are disrespectful to the beautiful island of Kauai and the fragile ocean ecosystem.

• Similarly, I wanted to try their cakes, but they were all packaged in plastic containers.

Convenient location in the Kukui Grove Shopping Center, get here early for the best and broadest selection. Delicious malasada options. I went for a few: cream, chocolate and black bean filled. Excellent prices. Regular malasadas for $0.70 each. Filled at $1.65. A lot of other baked goods and cakes. Some staff could smile and be a bit more welcoming, but overall good experience.

Seeing that the bakery got pretty good ratings I dropped in to try something. I tried the malasadas (Portuguese donuts) and tupig (a Filipino confection made from glutinous rice mixed with coconut). Prices were pretty good and the malasadas were tasty. Didn’t much care for the tupig, but I’ve never had one before so I can’t tell if it was a good version of one or not. I would have liked to try more but didn’t like their packaging choices (more on that below).

• Their coffee cups were made of Styrofoam – the worst possible choice, especially for an island ecosystem like Kauai. Made of toxic materials, and prone to flying away and ending up in the ocean or parks. Because of toxicity and pollution concerns it has been banned in many US cities and many entire countries (India, China, and others).

Love the local flavours. You can get some of your Filipino bakery favourites here. Tasty. Helpful staff.

Great malasadas!! Esp the plain and red bean ones

I had an apple turnover as they were meant to be amazing from here, and they were okay, pretty standard. It was nice enough. Staff were friendly.

The malasadas were good, but… (2/5 green stars)

I’m also giving them 2/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons:
