I saw a waitress rubbbing opened straws in her hand before putting them in customers drinks. That is really gross. Our waitress had a terrible attitude as well. Drinks were made poorly. The bartender does not now how to make drinks...
• However, the overall selection was not at all vegetarian /vegan friendly. There was a quinoa salad and I think that was about it (other than fries). Even the soup and cheese dip (for chips) contained meat.
• The Kona brewery does a lot in terms of sustainability (solar energy, water conservation, GHG emissions, use of local ingredients), community involvement, and fundraising.
Avoid the po'boys...fire steak was so filled with Cheezewhiz, that's all you tasted and chicken was mostly breaded and fried chicken lunch meat! Garlic fries did not have garlic and coleslaw tasted like mayo. Service lacking...had to ask three times for water. Salad looked like the best bet.
Local beer and garlic fries – what more do you need? (3/5 green stars)
• There are two ways of looking at the food and beer: What I had – fried potato and local beer – is fairly sustainable, and I appreciate that they had local Kona beer on tap.
Loved this place! We had a bit of time to kill before our flight back to the mainland and stopped in here for drinks and food. The beef was ice cold, the ahi sashimi salad was very good and seered just right. The portugese soup was served piping hot and was the was the right amount of spicy. The fish tacos were a solid dish, generous cuts seered to perfection with chips and salsa. Some of the better airport me and the Mrs. have had. Would recommend.
• Everything was served on plates, in glasses, with metal utensils. A definite plus over Ai Ono and that dreaded Styrofoam!
• There’s no information on their sourcing of veggies, fish, meat, etc. on the menu and the restaurant doesn’t appear to have a website.
And we just wanted to get out. The food was just horrible and we paid the bill with most of the food left. If you’re like me and were hoping for a slight buzz to help sleep on a long flight and grab a bite, this certainly isn’t the place.
I’m also giving them 3/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons:
The only reason this place is receiving a star st all is because Google doesn’t allow users to rate with an accurate zero star. For starters, our server, if you could call her that, had no idea how to take hints that we were ready to order or need something. By the time we finally received our drinks the food was already ordered so it was too late to leave. The drinks were just terrible and didn’t even taste like bad examples. I know I should’ve gone to he bar and corrected the bar tender but the food and just came
I previously wrote a review of the Ai Ono restaurant at Lihue airport, saying how disappointed that I was that the food was served in Styrofoam containers, even when eating in-house. Besides Starbucks, I think Mea Inu is the only other option in the airport. I had a simple repast composed of a Fire Rock ale (Kona Brewing) and plate of garlic fries. Based on my experience, the service (Jane was very friendly), prices ($6 for the fries, $9 for a large beer), and the fact that I was in an airport (limited selection and elevated prices), I thought it deserves 4 stars.
