This place is a RIP OFF, YOU WILL PAY DOUBLE what they say online. THIS PLACE IS NOT A GOOD DEAL, they bait people with a low online "estimate". I should have read the reviews better this has happened to lots of people.
My boyfriend and I used Dollar Rental car for our visit to Kauai last week. Before going to return the rental car we stopped over at the gas station obviously fill the gas tank. We could not find how to open the gas cover to fill the gas. We didn't want to be late for our flight back home. So as we got to the airport terminal where the rental car is, the power was out. So when we got there they couldn't help us. So the manager Robyn had told us that he would take care of it and if we got charged he would help with that and all we had to do was call. "No problem at all" So we called this morning and they guy on the phone said he was not able to help us with the problem. .
Never renting at Dollar Car Rental again. For basically the same amount I've had much better experiences with Alamo. Would recommend against renting with this pathetic company and its incompetent employees for anyone.
Booked this rental car well in advance, and was in line behind 5 parties. We waited in line for literally a whole hour... That's how long it took for them to take care of five parties, and then we still had to wait twenty minutes for the car to be cleaned and ready for us. Alamo took care of longer lines in a third the time in previous experiences. The cashier declined to give us an itemized list of pre-existing damage to the car. Then, they told us there were no dents in the car, and missed the fact that there actually were three dents, accidentally I'm sure. Incredibly shady. Overall it. Took an hour to get out of five person line and deal with painful customer service, an hour and a half of my honeymoon I'll never get back.
Hence the fact that when we got there the lady that was checking the car didn't even know how to open the gas tank her self so she had to ask her worker how to open it in which he did. Then as we go to the counter to return the car key is where we saw an associate her name was Sherryl and that is when we met with the manager name Robyn is when we had told him the situation and he kindly had told us the power is out so they couldn't do anything at that time. So if we got charged to call back and he'll take care of it. Quote on Quote "No Problem at all" and he said "It's not our faults"
When booking the car online my total for a week rental was $296.04, at the time I paid $203.95. I assumed I would be paying the rest and a little bit more for insurance and whatever other "fee" they could tack on at the counter. At the counter they said my total would be $445.55(excluding the $203.95 that I paid) to be paid upon my return. Keep in mind I got the cheapest insurance coverage and returned the car with a full tank. When I returned the car I was charged another $378.89. Meaning my week car rental was actually $582.84, twice as much as they said it would be when booking. If you are looking for a deal, DO NOT use Dollar USA. They trick people into thinking they are the cheap option, but they are really one of the most expensive.
I always had positive experiences with Dollar. They are the first place I look when I have to rent a vehicle. Their "manager's special was a minivan which came in quite handy out in Hawaii.
Travelled Kaua'i October 2017. I made a car reservation through Discount Hawai'i car rentals. Despite reviews, Dollar Car Rentals Kaua'i was problem free. Great customer service, good car provided, maintained well and clean. Easy and pleasant pick up and drop off of the car. Shuttle service to and from airport was hassle free.
Then this happens. They guy on the phone this morning was rude and not helpful. He didn't go beyond to get help to fix it. All he said was he "couldn't do on his computer" He didn't take the initiative to get help us AT ALL. We will no longer rent from here on our next visit to Kauai. I should've went with Avis.
